This programme highlights a deeply expressive journey through Romantic and 20th-century cello repertoire, featuring Dvořák’s evocative Silent Woods, Chopin’s dramatic Cello Sonata, and Shostakovich’s intense Cello Sonata.
Geirþrúður Guðmundsdóttir (cello)
Geirþrúður Guðmundsdóttir is an internationally acclaimed cellist who has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, the Southbank Centre, Lincoln Center, the Warsaw Philharmonic and Harpa Concert Hall. She has appeared as soloist with orchestras such as the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra. A prizewinner at major international competitions and recipient of numerous fellowships, she is also a former member of the award-winning Terra String Quartet, with whom she won the Gold Medal at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. She is a City Music Foundation Artist and an active recitalist and chamber musician across Europe and the United States.
Antoine Préat (piano)
Antoine Préat is a French pianist performing internationally at venues including Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, BOZAR Brussels, Harpa Concert Hall and Salle Gaveau, as well as major festivals such as La Folle Journée, IMS Prussia Cove and the Chopin Festival in Nohant. He has appeared on BBC Radio 3, France Musique and other major European broadcasters, and collaborates regularly with leading soloists, ensembles and orchestras. A prizewinner of several international competitions, he is a graduate of the École Normale de Musique de Paris, the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and is a recipient of support from the City Music Foundation and other major foundations.
