The Assembly House Classical Lunchtime Series welcomes an outstanding ensemble of international musicians for a special afternoon of chamber music. Violinist Benjamin Baker—praised by The New York Times for his “virtuosity, refinement and youthful exuberance”—is joined by rising-star violist Emma Wernig, award-winning cellist Tim Posnerand renowned Welsh composer-pianist Huw Watkins.
At the heart of the programme is the Norwich premiere of Watkins’s String Trio No. 2. The work was co-commissioned by the Penarth Chamber Music Festival and At the World's Edge Festival—the adventurous festival founded by Benjamin Baker in his native New Zealand. Written for these exceptional performers, the work reflects the close musical partnerships and creative spirit that lie at the heart of chamber music.
The concert concludes with the passionate intensity of Johannes Brahms’s magnificent Piano Quartet No. 3 in C minor, Op. 60—a masterpiece of dark drama and lyrical beauty, bringing this lunchtime concert to a thrilling close.
